Israel Defense Forces operations in the territories go into their fourth day this morning. Following incursions in Ramallah and Beit Jala, IDF troops were mobilizing last night for activities in Qalqilyah. Around midnight, Palestinian sources and foreign correspondents reported that IDF tanks were rumbling into Qalqilyah's main entrances, and also into Tul Karm. Palestinian sources also reported that Israel had cut off electricity in portions of Qalqilyah.
The IDF is preparing for operations in other Palestinian cities. IDF sources said yesterday that all cities on the West Bank are to be "taken care of," and that limited actions on the Gaza Strip could also be undertaken in the days ahead.
U.S envoy Anthony Zinni met last night in Jerusalem with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon; it was the pair's first discussion since the Passover eve terror attack in Netanya, and since IDF troops rolled into Ramallah. Prior to the meeting, American sources indicated that Zinni would deliver a message from President Bush, which supports Israel's right to defend itself against terror.
At this stage, the Bush administration has decided not to pressure Israel to end its military operations.
