"This is a girl who would never appear on a wanted list. She sat at home. She was not active in anything political. Sharon can chase all the ones he says organize these operations, but he cannot chase away the will of young people to carry out these things," said Takafka's mother, Aziza. In the past 18 months of conflict, about 50 Palestinians have staged suicide bombings.
Questions linger over who might have supplied Takafka with the explosives. Bomb-laden belts typically have four or six cylinders of explosives and shrapnel and are detonated electronically. Takafka's parents said they didn't know who gave her the bomb, and everyone else said it didn't matter. "The more the Israelis try to hold onto us, the more people feel they have no option except to kill and be killed," said Mahmoud Eliam, a neighbor of the Takafkas.
